Alex is the second half of Hello Home Books. I had Kim on two episodes ago in episode 300 to share her story of military service and a little about Hello Home Books. This week I get to share Alex’s story of service. Alex also worked in Human Resources (S1) career field like Kim and they met at Fort Stewart when they both worked in an S1 shop. She also served in Kuwait and Germany before coming back to the states for her last assignment. After leaving the military she went to school to become a dietician and is coming up on graduation.

Alex decided to join the military because when she graduated she couldn’t find a job outside of working retail which she had already done before college. She needed experience and something new. So she joined the Army. She went through Army Basic Training and then completed Officer Candidate School. Once she completed school she commissioned into the Army. She then headed off to Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) for the Adjutant General career field.
Her first assignment was in her home state and while she was getting the job experience she wasn’t seeing the world. She was looking for an opportunity to deploy and got an assignment to Kuwaitt. Near the end of her first year in Kuwait sheapplied to be an aide de camp to a general officer in Central Command (CENTCOM). She got to travel all over CENTCOM and learned a lot. Her next assignment was in Germany working for Security Forces. It was a challenging job but she enjoyed it.
Leaving the military
Her final assignment was in the US and working as a commander. It was actually the same unit that had improcessed her when she first joined the Army. She hadn’t planned to stay in past her 3 year commitment but was already at ten years and was ready for the next phase so she decided to leave the military. She used her GI Bill to get her degree as a dietitian and is months away from graduation.

She is also working with her best friend to write books for military kids to get them excited or to learn about the new location they are living in.
