Kimberly is working with her friend Alex to create books for military kids. There are a lot of books for military kids but how Kimberly and Alex’s books are different is that they focus on getting kids excited about the location they will be moving to. Kimberly serve in the Army as a Human Resource officer. She had the opportunity to serve overseas in Korea twice and shared about some of the challenges and positive aspects of military service.

Books for Military Kids
Kimberly joined the Army through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. She was looking for a way to pay for college and her dad recommended she look into ROTC. ROTC allowed her to go to school and have it paid for. She really enjoyed her time in ROTC and had a great experience. Initially, she planned to become a doctor but changed her plans and instead became a human resource officer.
Off to Korea
Her first assignment was in Korea. She was planning to work in S1 shop but instead got assigned to a mail room that was struggling with challenges. She was able to work with the team and get things turned around. The morale and physical fitness assessments scores improved and she had a good assignment. Then it was off to the states.
A stint as an XO
She was planning to work once again in an S1 shop but got assigned to be an executive officer for a year. She didn’t enjoy that job but at the end of it she finally had the chance to work in S1. Next, she worked in a Field Artillery unit that had recently opened the doors to women. It was a great experience and she found the Field Artillery unit to be welcoming toward her and would go back if she had to join the Army again.
Off to New York
Next she moved North to New York and loved the cold and outdoors. She also served a 9 month rotation in Korea. Upon returning home from Korea she began to prepare to leave the military. She applied for an internship program so that she would be prepared when leaving the military. It worked and she found a job and was already working before the official end of her military career.
Stay at home mom
She decided to transition to being a stay at home mom and in the process discovered that she wanted to help military kids when they moved. She and a fellow Army veteran, Alex Williams, are working to create books for kids that tell them about the fun things to do at Army post across the country. They hope to expand to other military branches in the future. Their first book was focused on Fort Liberty. And their second book focused on Fort Leavenworth is being released in October.
