Darlene joined the military looking for community but she learned how to be a leader in the military. After her parents died she was on her own and so she looked at the military for community. She ended up joining the Air Force. At Basic Training she was selected to lead the platoon and it allowed her to see the potential she had to be a leader. She is an award winning author, relationship coach, reverend and more. I’m excited to share her inspiring story this week on the Women of the Military podcast.
Becoming a Leader in the Military
While at Basic Training Darlene was asked by the drill sergeant to lead her flight. She reluctantly took the role but found she excelled at it. Her flight even met the goal of honor flight. She shared how the experience of Basic Training really was pivotal and how it was mentally tough. She served in a role that was similar to her college major but not quite journalist. In the end, she enjoyed her job and was happy to move to Hawaii after being in Mississippi.
Next career
She met her husband in Hawaii and followed him through out his military career. Getting to dive into her passion of singing while also being a mom of three. She shared the lessons learned from the military as both a service member and a military spouse. Now her kids are out of the house but she is still working to serve others in the community. She recently released an anthology called, Destiny Exposé. She is working on two more books that will be release in the next eight months.
