As the Women’s Army Corps was ending Lori’s career in the military was starting. She joined the U.S. Army weeks before the Women’s Army Corps disbanded. This led her to switch to the regular Army and while many things didn’t change there was even more resentment towards her through out her career. She served as a truck driver and then switched to Army aviation after attending Air Traffic Control school. She shares her story in her memoir Two Week WAC written with her pename of Bea Ann Amark.
As the Women’s Army Corps was ending
Lori decided to join the military because she was looking for something different. She saw the opportunity to be a truck driver and that peaked her interest. She went through Basic and AIT as the WAC was being disbanded and became part of the regular Army. Her first assignment was in Germany. Besides having a lot of adventures in Germany. She also discussed the continual threat that Russia might invade Germany and how that affected the assignment.
Getting married ended up being a huge mistake. In order to get a new assignment she attended Air Traffic Control school. She spent the next 17 years serving in that career field until she retired.
Sharing her story
She decided to share her story in a memoir because she thought it was an interesting story and wanted others to hear about her experience in the Army.
