I really enjoyed celebrating Women’s History Month by creating a four week series focused on history of military women. I thought I knew a lot about history of military women but as I learned there is still a lot more to learn and more stories to uncover. If you would like to catch up on the series you can watch it here. It will be added to YouTube this summer.
Military Women History Series
Week 1: Amazing Military Women from History
I’m excited to highlight the stories of military women during Women’s History Month. This week I want to share the stories of 10 remarkable women I have learned about from podcasting and blogging the past six years.
Week 2: Military Nurses and their History
Many of the doors that were opened to allow women to serve in the military came through the brave actions and sacrifices made by military nurses. After finishing The Women by Kristin Hannah that highlights the stories of military nurses during Vietnam, last month I wanted to dive deeper into the history and role military nurses played during our military’s history.
I can’t wait for you to join me on Wednesday as we dive into this topic. This is week 2 of my four week series highlighting the stories of military women. Last week I shared the stories of remarkable women from history. This week is focused on nursing, next week we will dive into the changes for women from 1970-1990 and the final week will focus on the road to women in combat arms.
Week 3: Steps to Equality (1970-1990)
There is often a tendency to overlook this period of history between 1970 and 1990. But when you dive into the stories of women who served in the military during this time you learn the military not only was doing a lot. But the military also made a lot of changes. And many of these changes specifically were for women. In the end, these changes had a huge impact for women going forward. We are going to look at some of those changes and see how they impacted future generations.
Week 4: The Road to Combat Arms
This week we will be talking about the road to women serving in combat roles. This includes my story. I’m also excited to share all I have learned these past six years by interviewing military women. So much of the history I have learned is through books. Women who have been guest on my podcast sharing their story.
