Refining Moments Change Our Lives

With the 10k and half marathon last weekend I missed Five Minute Friday, but I am back again this week. Sometimes real life gets in the way of blogging and instead of trying to force it I just took a break. Ready to write. This week the word is REFINE.

Isn’t it interesting how big moments in our life refine us into who we become. I have a few moments in my life that have changed the course set for the future, but one of the biggest was joining the military. Joining the military began through a bunch of random events that all tied together and ended with me deciding not to enlist, but instead do the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at the college I was currently attending.

Through this choice, I met my husband, switched my major from mathematics to civil engineering and eventually it led up to me being on the PRT deployment I went on.

I think the thing I am most thankful for when looking back is how the military brought my husband and I together. We met during the ROTC program and who knows if our paths would have ever crossed had it not been for that program. Even looking back there was plenty of opportunities for our romance to spark long before we actually noticed each other.

It was a perfectly crafted dance and I can see God’s hand in all of it. I feel so blessed to be refined by the military and also given a beautiful gift. My husband and now our family. Another refining moment was going from a couple to a family, but we will have to save that story for another time.

Times up!

I really didn’t expect a tribute to how much I am thankful that the military brought my husband and I together. But I am truly thankful for him. About a year ago I did a guest post on Messy Mom about how Michael and I met. You can read the whole post here.
