You are More than enough

I saw a quote today talking about how lucky we are to be moms to our boys. And I think that universally that is true for every mom, but when I first became a mom I never thought my son was lucky to have me as a mom.

My mom told me when she came to visit a few weeks after my son was born. I was sitting playing with my brand new baby, giving kisses and trying to woo out a little smile. She told me I was a great mom and how lucky my son was to have me.

I didn’t believe her then, but I am happy to say I do now. If you have ever felt like you are not good enough to be the mom you think your child needs. Remember you are more than enough.

Every smile, kiss and hug is more than enough

Every time you get down on the floor to play or chase your child around is more than enough

Every boo boo you kiss and care for is more than enough

Every snuggle on a “late” Saturday morning or the sick days is more than enough

Every I’m sorry and request for forgiveness is more than enough

Every stinky diaper changed, every load of laundry completed is more than enough

Every floor that is swept, mopped and cleaned (to get dirty all over again) is more than enough

You are so much more than you can ever realize.

You see it in the smiles and hugs. The joy that bounces in their eyes when they greet you after being away all day or maybe just a few hours. Sometimes it may be harder to see, but if you look deep you can see it and know that it is there. They need you and are lucky to have you.

43 weeks (1 of 1)

You are a special gift and chosen by God to be the Mom of your child. Through natural birth, adoption or whatever road led you to motherhood you are more than enough.

  1. Thank you Amanda for this great post. As we get older and the children drift away we sometimes wonder about our place in our childrens lifes. We look for the call, hug, smile, note to reaffirm our place.
We are geat moms. We are enough!!! Thank you.

    • I’m so happy I could be an encouragement to you. I guess motherhood doesn’t get any easier, it is just a different sort of challenges.

  2. It fills me with joy to see the mom you have become and I love the wonderful gift you have to share your insights.

    • I don’t think the girl you knew in Afghanistan would even begin to understand how far I have come and how much my life has changed in the last two years. I’m so thankful for your friendship and kind words.

  3. Awww so sweet. And I love how you included all the different types of mothers in your last sentence. You are indeed enough!

    • I didn’t want to leave anyone out because we are all moms. The road we took to get there is not as important as the job we are doing. 🙂

  4. I’ve had SUCH a hard day today…and reading this, the girl that never cries, never gives-up, never shows fear…wept. You hit me right where I needed filled my friend. Seriously…I claim this post tonight! Thank you!

  5. I knew God wrote it for someone and it makes me so happy it was able to give you a hug and encouragement. You are more than enough. Those hard days test us, but I’m so glad this was scheduled for this day and that I was above you to read. God knew you needed it.
