How to get started with cloth diapers: Prefolds
If you are going to be a new parent soon you might be asking the question, “Should I use cloth diapers?” I know I had that question when our bundle of joy arrived. After asking friends and even doing a Facebook poll my husband and I decided to try out cloth, but had it not been for the help of a really good friend I wouldn’t have known where to start. So this post is to give you the basics.
I started off by using. Prefolds. Prefold are the most basic form of cloth diapers and are pretty cheap. They are a good way to know if you will be able to keep up with the laundry and deal with the poo. If you are going to try prefolds here is what you need to get started.
- Prefold diapers (duh) This is the brand that I used OsoCozy 6 Pack Prefolds
- Snapies (or you can go really old fashion and use pins) Snappi Cloth Diaper Fasteners – Pack of 5
- Plastic cover (you need 1 cover for about 6 cloth diapers) Dappi Waterproof 100% Vinyl Diaper Pants
Wash your covers and prefolds on a sanitary setting or normal with an extra rinse or two depending on how soiled the diapers are. I recommend not using cloth until all the meconium is out of your babies digestive track. It is really hard to get the meconium off of the cloth diaper.
We also decided it was easier to use disposables at night. Those were just things that we chose to do. I ended up loving cloth diapers so we invested in All In One (AIO) diapers and I will have a post about that tomorrow.
